Besides Psalmopoeus cambridgei, irminia is probably the most popular representative of the genus. In the female, the legs are black with the typical orange markings, which represent a noticeable contrast. Males are sexually dimorphic, appear to have much thinner legs, and lose most of their impressive coloration (visually resembling P. cambridgei males). The spider rarely shows up and likes to build a nest behind cork tubes. One of the characteristics known from all species of the genus Psalmopoeus is the stridulation organ, with which the spider can produce sounds.
